So I'm Hormonal. Sue Me.

Lunch yesterday was really lovely. Monkey Boy's sister Vegan Girl and her partner went OTT with the food, which was divine. Monkey-Mamma went OTT with the provision of alcohol, some of which unfortunately ended up on Felix's head courtesy of bad mothering on my part. Monkey Boy's other sister, Hippy Chick, went OTT with the high-pitched squeals of delight at "Gidget Face".

Now, I'm not one to be all materialistic and pout about "not getting stuff". Birthdays, Chrisbo, Valentine's Day; they all pass me by and I could care less. But sometimes...sometimes there are occasions that deserve to be marked and acknowledged in some small but meaningful way.

I know he's only 5 weeks old, so getting to the shops is a little difficult, but I do feel that after all I've done for him*, Felix could have got his representative** to cobble together a little something that celebrated the fact that this was my first Mothers' Day and that it might actually mean something to me.

Sitting up late on my own to watch the special Mothers Day screening of Love Actually with a MD card on my mantelpiece sent to me by one of my dear "internet friends" didnt do much to cement my feelings of being appreciated.

That is all I shall say on the matter.

* I hereby swear I will never use this phrase in parenting ever again.
**Not pointing fingers, but someone hairy who likes bananas.

Sounds just like my first Mother's day, also with a 5 week old infant. Sometimes men just don't get it at all. But I wanted to let you know that you are not alone in wanting something to commemerate how much you do for everyone. I resorted to flat out telling my husband. Good luck.

Ouch! How could he? I was just reading about a tradition of men giving their women a gift after birthing their baby. Never had heard this before. Won't build up any expectations there. But Mothers' Day? He can always give you something belated so put in those hints!

Oh Panda!! That sucks and guess what?? The only mother's day little gift I got was from my mother! It appears the significance was lost on my man too. Humph!

I also got to watch my big man, MIL AND FIL sit down to a freshly cooked dinner while I gave EBM to our little man. Hello???!!!!! EBM!!!!! Does anyone else want to let the inaugural mother's day mum eat while say, umm, I don't know, maybe the father (who is not having a father's day) gives our little man a feed. I know sacrifice comes with the territory but pulease!!!! On mother's day??!!

Okay, got that off my chest.

    Belated big hugs. xx

  7. yep, hate to say it, but such events require--at least initially--shameless acts of self-promotion. just to establish the tradition, you understand. along the lines of "what's felix going to do for me for mother's day, do you think?" or "THAT would be a nice treat for Mother's Day."

hopefully, once you lay the groundwork, the rest takes care of itself (gives hollow laugh on that one).

  8. I'm late to comment on this one but VERY POOR FORM from all concerned. Can there be a belated Mothers Day? Why yes, and if the presents are good enough there is still an opportunity for redemption. Of course that's a big IF.

Comments make blogging a conversation, rather than mere self-indulgent navel-gazing. Look at that big empty space down there...just waiting for your thoughts.
